Dual Degree Engineering

Requirements for the Dual Degree Engineering Track 

 

To declare the Dual Degree Engineering track, a student must have completed MATH 1221 and MATH 2221 with a GPA of 2.75 or higher before beginning his/her 2nd year. The student needs to have taken at least one math course at LaGrange College before being able to declare.  If a student starts at the level of MATH 2221 with no grade for MATH 1221 available (e.g., placed in), a 2.25 (“C+”) or better is required for MATH 2221 in order to be eligible to declare.  If a student starts the first semester of the first year at LaGrange College with MATH 2222 or higher, the student can declare once (s)he has completed a required mathematics course at LaGrange College. 

If a student meets the GPA requirement for MATH 1221 and 2221 but does not complete the courses before beginning the 2nd year, an exception to the declaration requirements will be allowed as long as the student understands that the required courses at LaGrange College will most likely take longer than 3 years to finish.

A student can only get a degree from LaGrange College under our program if (s)he does a Dual Degree transfer to one of the engineering institutions with which we have an agreement (Auburn and GA Tech) and completes an undergraduate engineering degree there.  (A regular transfer, which has in general harder requirements for entry, to one of these schools and/or completion of a degree other than an engineering degree would disqualify the student from earning a LaGrange College degree.)

A student cannot do a Dual Degree transfer if (s)he has completed the courses for a full degree from LaGrange College while under the Dual Degree program.

 

Course and GPA Requirements 

Dual Degree Engineering students must satisfactorily complete all of the following courses before attending the engineering institution:

Please note the algebra-based physics courses are not acceptable for the program; the calculus-based physics courses (General Physics, PHYS 2121 and 2122) are required. Students must begin the study of calculus as early as possible in order to be prepared for the physics sequence, which has MATH 2222 as a pre-requisite.

The GA Tech Dual Degree Program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 separately for English courses, mathematics courses, and lab science courses in order to be accepted for transfer.  GA Tech also maintains GPA requirements that vary from 3.0-3.3 depending on the intended engineering major. This range applies to both overall GPA and math-lab science GPA.  There is a "no grade forgiveness policy" with respect to repeating a course. Students should check the GA Tech website for current requirements under the Dual Degree Engineering program.  https://admission.gatech.edu/transfer/dual-degree.

For Auburn, a GPA average of at least 2.5 (2.8 for College of Architecture) is needed.  A “D” or “F” in a course listed above is not acceptable.

The engineering fields offered at Auburn are Aerospace, Biosystems, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Computer Science and Software, Electrical and Computer, Industrial and Systems, Materials, Mechanical, and Wireless.

The engineering fields offered at GA Tech are Aerospace, Biomedical, Chemical and Biomolecular, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Computer, Industrial and Systems, Materials, Mechanical, and Nuclear and Radiological.
